Hobo Spiders

Need to Know Facts…

Hobo spiders aren’t particularly unique looking compared to other spiders. They can be anywhere from 11mm to 14mm in length, depending on if the spider is male or female. They are usually colored in shades of brown. Male hobo spiders have swollen looking appendages that contain their reproductive organs.

Hobo spiders are nocturnal and prefer to set up camp in dark and damp hiding spots. Because they aren’t very good climbers, you will find most hobo spider webs closer to the ground. These spiders spin intricate funnel-shaped webs usually found behind furniture, between boxes, in your garage, and other dark corners of your home. You may also find them in piles of wood, garden beds, and around the foundation of your home.

Hobo spiders generally have poor vision and are afraid of any threat bigger than them. Female hobo spiders, however, are very protective of their eggs and will be aggressive if they think predators are after their young ones.

Do I Need Hobo Spider Control?

If you see any funnel-shaped webs or brown hobo spiders in your home or yard or other places on your commercial property, then you have an infestation and need home spider control.

How Did I Get Hobo Spiders?

Hobo spiders wandered into your home or building the way most pests do: through cracks and crevices, windows and opened doors, etc. They enter your home looking for mates and dark protected places to build their funnel-shaped webs and hunt for food. If you do come across a hobo spider in your home, it will probably be when the weather is warming up due to a change in the Southern California season.

Getting Rid of Hobo Spiders…

It can be hard to conduct effective hobo spider removal yourself because they tend to hide well. Here at Harper Pest Control, we know where the hobo spiders hide. Harper Pest Control will take care of your unwanted hobo spider home intruders efficiently with our CleanGreen method, eliminating the hobo spiders in your house and creating a barrier around your house to defend your home from more hobo intruders.

Spiders are arachnids, not insects. Their biology has built-in sophisticated defense mechanisms that protect them from residual pest control products. Spiders are solitary creatures, not communal like most insects, so there is no domino effect when treating spiders. They have to be killed individually. At Harper Pest Control, we have developed a residual method for spider control that works very well. We treat and kill as many spiders as we see and disrupt their webs but strategically leave active webs untouched. If we can’t find the spider host, we spray the web leaving it a deadly trap when the spider returns.

The best thing you can do to prevent further hobo spider infestation in your house is to keep your home pest-free, eliminating the hobo spider’s food source in your home. With Harper Pest Control’s CleanGreen products, your home will be clean from pests in no time!
