Cockroaches can measure anywhere from .5 inches in length to 2 inches in length, depending on the species of cockroach. They have flat oval-shaped bodies, with six long legs that help them to scurry quickly across floors, walls, ceilings, and any other flat surface. Cockroaches also have long antennae and some species even have wings.
Because cockroaches are nocturnal, they tend to stay hidden in dark, hard-to-find places during the day and come out to eat during the night. Cockroaches will eat anything, from all types of human food and pet food to other household items like soap, glue, and even trash.
Though cockroaches don’t bite or sting, they do carry infectious diseases that can be harmful to humans and pets. Cockroaches can carry salmonella, dysentery, gastroenteritis, poliomyelitis, cholera, leprosy, giardia, listeriosis, E.coli, etc. These diseases can be transferred to the food that they have access to in your pantry. Cockroach sheddings can also trigger allergies and asthma.
Because cockroaches are nocturnal and are very good at staying hidden, you may not spot an actual cockroach in your home or commercial building, but other signs signal the presence of a cockroach infestation. Female cockroaches can lay hundreds of eggs in capsule-shaped shells in their lifetimes. They tend to lay their eggs in dark places in your home, such as drawers, trash cans, underneath furniture, corners, and other dark cracks. If you see these eggs around your home or building, you likely have an infestation and require cockroach removal.
Cockroaches also leave trails of poop around their stomping grounds at night when they are hunting for food and water. If you see cockroach droppings, which resemble coffee grounds or pepper, then you likely have an infestation and require cockroach control.
Because infestations can grow out of control very quickly, you must contact us as soon you notice these signs.
Cockroaches get into homes and buildings through small entry points like windows, cracks, crevices, and many other small, unnoticeable entrances. You may have even unknowingly carried them in on boxes or in bags. Like most pests, cockroaches break into your home looking for food and water. All these roaches need to survive are food, water, and shelter, which is why infestations usually occur in dirty homes, but can also occur in clean homes. Without proper treatment, no home in Southern California is immune!
Unfortunately, cockroach infestations don’t just leave on their own. Do-it-yourself cockroach treatments are ineffective and will not rid your home of these nasty buggers. Harper Pest Control will take care of your unwanted roach house guests efficiently with our CleanGreen method.
