Black Widow Spiders

Need to Know Facts…

Despite the name “black” widow, these spiders vary in color. While a majority of black widows are black, with red hourglass-shaped markings on the underside of their belly, some black widows are brown with orange markings on their bellies.

Black widow spiders are venomous. When provoked, female black widows will bite, secreting a venom with neurotoxins that attack the nervous system. The black widow spider is considered to have the most toxic spider bite in the United States.

Black widows usually build webs in protected, sheltered, and secluded areas, whether inside or outside. If the widow is outside, its web may be found in protected places such as the underside of outdoor furniture and piles of wood. Inside a home, a black widow will build its web in dark, cluttered corners, usually on the ground level, like in a closet or garage.

How Did I Get Black Widows?

Like most pests, black widows enter homes and commercial buildings through cracks, crevices, open doors, and windows in search of food, water, and shelter. They seek clutter and unused corners of the house to set up camp and catch prey. If you see black widow spiders in your house, you need spider control.

Getting Rid of Black Widows…

Due to the toxic nature of the black widow spider bite, attempting black widow spider removal yourself can be difficult. Harper Pest Control will take care of your unwanted black widow home intruders efficiently with our CleanGreen method.

Spiders are arachnids, not insects. Their biology has built-in sophisticated defense mechanisms that protect them from residual pest control products. Spiders are solitary, not communal creatures like most insects, so there is no domino effect when treating spiders. They have to be killed individually. At Harper Pest Control, we have developed a residual method for spider control that works very well. We treat and kill as many spiders as we see and disrupt their webs but strategically leave active webs untouched. If we can’t find the spider host, we spray the web leaving it a deadly trap when the spider returns. Our treatments help eliminate the widows in your house and create a barrier around your property to defend your home from more widow intruders.
